The 1986 ‘Transformers: The Movie’ Getting a 30th Anniversary Blu-Ray/DVD Release

Shout! Factory, the company resposible for bringing Freaks and Geeks to DVD—a feat previously impossible due to “complex music rights issues”—is releasing a completely remastered edition of Transformers: The Movie onto DVD and Blu-Ray om September 13th. The title is part of the 30th anniversary from when the Autobots first landed on earth to assume the identities of various vehicles and battle the malevolent Decepticons.

Released way back in 1986, Transformers: The Movie has stood the test of time and is still heralded as THE definitive Transformers film. After a climatic battle leaves Optimus Prime and Megatron mortally wounded, the Decepticons and Autobots scramble. Optimus transfers the Matrix of Leadership to Ultra Magnus, hoping that he will be the savior the Autobots need to end the war on Cybertron. Megatron, meanwhile, is offered a new body by Unicron, a humongous planet eating robot, to destroy the new Ultra Magnus of the Autobots and the Matrix of Leadership. The Matrix being the only thing that can destroy Unicron. What ensues is an action packed 84 minutes of awesome robot on robot action.

The anniversary edition is going to be packed full of extras that have yet to be announced. Knowing Shout! Factory however, it will be nothing short of amazing. Just by pre-ordering through them you can already receive a free poster of the cover art from the DVD/Blu-Ray. Shout! Factory has always been about the fans. They stuff their releases with a ton of extras. Every edition of Mystery Science Theater 3000 that I’ve purchased through them has always had mini movie posters, some have even had amazing collectibles, like this Tom Servo piece packaged with one of the volumes I bought:
