The Wall Street Journal reports that Sony will be showing off two new versions of the PlayStation 4 console at a major press event in New York on September 7th. The event will be held at the PlayStation Theater and the topic will be the business future of the PlayStation 4.
The first model is the slimmer version of the PS4. It is rumored to ship with a 500gb harddrive and, according to “leaked images” on NeoGaf, it will be functionally the same as the current PS4 you may or may not have in your home currently.
Sony is also planning on officially unveiling the much talked about, little seen, PlayStation “Neo.” This model will be an upgraded version of the PS4 capable of running 4k video among other enhancements to the system. We have been assured that games will be required to run on both the orginial PS4 and the “Neo,” so gamers won’t have to upgrade immediately in order to experience the latest titles . We also have had confirmation that PlayStation VR will work with current models.
Elsewhere, Sony announced that the price for PlayStation Plus will increase by a whopping $10. This brings the service’s annual price up to $59.99 USD/$69.99 CAD. This hike goes into effect September 22, 2016. It is advised you obtain a new year subscription renewal card now while they are still available for $49.99 or less.
