Official Twitter App Now Available on iPad

image

Anyone see the new iPad commercial? If so, they show an app on it that was only available for the iPhone or iPod Touch. What is it you say? It was Twitter. Well folks, the wait is over. Twitter now has an official app available for the iPad and can be downloaded from the iTunes Store.

This app looks very good folks. Just like most of the apps on the iPad, Twitter is very clean and very easy to use, much like the iPhone and iPod Touch versions.

The new Twitter app uses Panes, Media and Gestures.

Panes allow the user to click on a Tweet and depending on the Tweet will see a story, video, or maybe another Tweet to the right of the screen. The user can open as many Tweets as they would like in this fashion and just by brushing left or right can change between the Tweets.

The Media feature allows users to be able to play media within the app when they click on a video link or embedded video. While videos are loading the user is still able to swipe back and forth between Panes until the video is ready to play.

The Gestures allow the user to take action on a Tweet, such as Retweet or see more info on the Author of the Tweet. A very cool feature of the Gestures is that if you put two fingers onto a Tweet (pinch) it will list out all the conversations leading up to that Tweet. This makes it very easy to follow a conversation.

So to sum up Twitter is coming out fighting against third-party apps and seems to have a decent app here for a release. I still enjoy Twittereffic, so it may take me awhile to make the switch entirely.

What about you? Any thoughts on the official Twitter app on the iPad? Let us know.
