You may have noticed an update to Google Maps yesterday, and with this new update comes a new social check-in game. Google Latitude is part of the reason that you can now take part in this game type thing. Google is trying to set their Maps package above other apps like Facebook and Foursquare by employing some features into their app. You get features such as automatic check-in, a new check-out button and check-in notifications.
Read on for more information.
Really, if you use Foursquare then there’s no reason you should make a full-on switch to this Latitude/Maps social experience. You don’t get the cool features such as posting to other social networks, like Twitter and Facebook, you also don’t get badges or discounts or the ability to add your own locations. There is a tiered set-up though, you can become a regular, ViP or Guru depending on how often you visit a venue. You can also see where your iOS friends are on the maps if they use Latitude also. It’s definitely worth checking out, but you may end up preferring Foursquare anyway.
