Firefox is still currently testing their 11th version of Firefox 4 beta. It seems that it is still not ready for public distribution and according to Christian Legnitto, the project’s release manager, stated that there will be a 12th version of the beta testing, only a week after launching the 10th version. Read more about the delay and what is causing it.
It seems that the biggest problems are stemming from Flash and Hotmail. Many of the users that are testing the beta are able to post issues that they are experiencing to Firefox’s Input Dashboard page. Nearly 3700 comments are pointing to Hotmail constantly refreshing. How annoying would that be? Another 1800 comments are discussing how Flash is having issues with basic browser functions such as copy/paste and password saving.
Firefox 4 will be a huge step for open source compared to the companies that are spending millions of dollars to develop browsers. It will feature a plug-in technology called JetPack. According to makers of JetPack:
Jetpack is a project to make it easy to build Firefox 4 add-ons using common web technologies like HTML, JavaScript, and CSS. Our goal is to enable anyone who can build a web site to participate in making the Web a better place to work, communicate, and play.
JetPack is currently available for anyone to download. Just go to their website and add the plug in. You can also view the progress of Firefox 4 at Mozilla’s beta site. Feel free to download and test it out.
