Here we go again! Retailers are dropping the PlayBook prices like its hot. Research in Motion’s poorly selling tablet is seeing an across the board price cut of $200 for all models. Staples and Office Depot are taking $100 off instantly with a $100 mail in rebate added on. Best Buy on the other hand is taking $100 off and offering a $100 gift card at the point of sale, no waiting for that extra money! Wal-Mart is even allegedly selling the usually $498 16GB model for $250.
The PlayBook has only shipped 200,000 units in the quarter, which leads many a geek to wonder if RIM has the ability to compete with Apple. The tablet comes in three flavors – 16GB, 32GB and a 64GB whopper. The tabs range in price from $399.99 – $599.99 and with the discounts make it cheaper than Apple’s flagship device. Sadly though, it seems doomed to slide into obscurity much like HP’s slate.
