Retailers slashing prices, low unit sales and various rumors swirling around has everyone writing an obituary for Research In Motion’s Playbook tablet. Rim has reached out to state the Playbook is not being discontinued at all. “RIM doesn’t typically comment on rumors, but any suggestion that the BlackBerry PlayBook is being discontinued is pure fiction” a RIM spokesman stated in an email to BGR. “RIM remains highly committed to the tablet market.” seems to indicate the company hasn’t given up in the highly competitive tablet market.
Many, many analysts and observers have been pondering the future of RIM not just in the tablet market but also in the cellphone sector. Blackberry is not the powerhouse it once was and the Playbook might have been their saving grace. As earlier reported, the tablet only shipped 200,000 in the quarter which is well below anticipated sales. It doesn’t appear the Playbook will exit this soap opera anytime soon and we’ll keep bringing you geeks all the drama!
