Tired of playing your video games on the couch with a controller in hand, or stuck to your PC desk? The Nintendo Wii, PlayStation Move, and Microsoft Kinect were all attempts to pull us out of static posture gaming and get us involved, but the dudes at The Gadget Show pulled out all the stops and showed us what full-body gaming is all about. And it hurts!
Running a pre-release version of Battlefield 3, they have rigged up a huge panoramic screen to an omni-directional treadmill for movement (walk in the direction you want the game to move you), a Kinect tracking body posture (crouch if you want the game to crouch), a multi-camera system to track your gun position for aiming, and a paintball launching system that punishes you when you get popped!
Talk about motivation to avoid fire! I wonder how long before military units the world over start training people to duck under fire by using a rig like this? Video after the break…
