Anonymous struck again!

Anonymous broke CBS.com over the weekend. Not just broke it but deleted it, annihilated it, sent it to the afterlife. Visitors were treated to a single index file upon arrival to CBS’ website. The hackers got in an scrubbed everything down, kinda like they tossed a big bottle of white-out into the works. The they went to work on Universal Music, Vivendi, and sevearl Brazilian sites including the one for singer Paula Fernandes. They left a simple message on those last sites, stating “If Megaupload is down, you are down too.” CBS, and Vivendi were able to get running again off of backups but we haven’t heard about the others.
It’s time someone sat down and pointed these chaps to the bigger picture here. Granted, it feels great in the short term for some payback\revenge but long term, they’re going to cause more harm than good. These kinds of attacks are just more fuel to the fire for over-zealous politicians and control freaks. They’ll point to Anon and say “See here, these terrorists are the reason we need tighter reigns.” The rampage last week that took down site for the RIAA, MPAA, the FBI, Copyright.gov and quite a few more just looks like petulant children playing instead of legitimate internet users protesting unfair and unjust legislation.
The online community isn’t taking any of this SOPA\PIPA crap lying down. The more rational minded of us also don’t want to be labeled in the same boat as Anon, pretty much the same way Congress feels about the few decent folks they have in their ranks. Calm down Anon, give it a break for a while. Deep breaths guys.
