Geeky Giveaway: BadAss on blu ray!

Winner picked, check thy emails geeks!

The beard has become real! Anybody who’s ever seen the Epic Beard Man video on Youtube might be surprised to find out it was turned into a movie. Okay, inspired a movie if you want to be technical. The movie is real and it stars perpetual badass, Danny Trejo. Mr. Machete himself takes on the gangs, the baddies and the corrupt cops in the city that had forsaken him years ago upon his return from Vietnam. Now his new found fame prompts him to find the killer of his best friend since those crooked cops won’t. And maybe clean up the city while he’s at it.

Kicking criminal butts and taking the law into his own hands, Danny Trejo (Machete, “Sons of Anarchy”) ignites the screen in the gritty, violent and enthralling film Bad Ass. Inspired by the viral video of a vigilante citizen taking action into his own hands, Bad Ass also stars Ron Perlman (“Sons of Anarchy,” Hellboy) and Charles S. Dutton (Alien 3). Bad Ass tells the story of decorated Vietnam hero, Frank Vega, who returns home only to be shunned by society. It’s not until 40 years later when an incident on a commuter bus makes him a local hero and he’s suddenly celebrated once again. But his good fortune ends when his best friend, Klondike, is murdered and the police aren’t doing anything about it.

Nothing can really top a full tilt action flick with Danny Trejo crushing skulls and blowing crap up! Grab a couple buds, some tasty refreshments and a bucket of popcorn then sit back to watch the craziness unfold. Hit the break to shoot in some entries as well as check out more films that looked too fake to be true.

Explosive, Action-Packed Film Inspired By Epic Beard Man Viral Video Lands On Blu-ray and DVD June 5

When the Bad Ass trailer first appeared online, many people doubted its authenticity and called the movie a “hoax.” In that spirit, this light hearted feature will highlight other awesome movies whose trailers looked a little too crazy to be real, including Machete and Hobo With a Shotgun.

Mortal Kombat

1995’s Mortal Kombat is based on the series of video games by the same name. The film follows the game favorites Liu Kang, Johnny Cage, and Sonya Blade as the Thunder God Raiden, on their journey to combat the evil sorcerer Shang Tsung to save Earth, guides them. The movie, with its cheesy action scenes and intense industrial soundtrack, could have easily seemed like a joke to moviegoers or a mistake to fans of the game. Despite that, the film spawned a sequel and a television series!

 Snakes on a Plane

The 2006 film Snakes on a Plane puzzled many moviegoers when they first saw the movie’s trailer: the straightforward title, premise, and hilarious casting seemed to be a red flag that moviegoers were having a joke played on them. Alas, Snakes on a Plane was very real and starred Samuel L. Jackson (ever the bad ass) as Agent Flynn, an FBI agent assigned to protect a trial witness on his flight to Los Angeles. Brutal and hilarious death by snakes ensued, and many fan videos were, subsequently, made.

Machete

2010’s Machete may have looked like a hoax for good reason: it’s an expansion of a fake trailer that was created for 2007’s Grindhouse! Machete was Danny Trejo’s first lead role, where he played the titular character, a former Mexican Federale who has a score to settle after a powerful drug lord kills his wife and daughter. Both campy and bloody, Machete concludes with the promise of his return in not one, but two sequels (Machete Kills and Machete Kills Again).

 Hobo With a Shotgun

Hobo With a Shotgun is a 2011 film that was birthed from Robert Rodriguez’s South by southwest Grindhouse trailers contest. As the title would suggest, Hobo With a Shotgun follows a hobo who arrives in a lawless town with the dream of starting a lawn mowing business. However, after witnessing the town’s corruption, the hobo decides to instead by a shotgun and clean up the town with his own brand of ass kicking vigilante justice.

Casa de Mi Padre

Will Ferrell staring in a Spanish-language action/comedy film? What? That sounds a little fishy! But 2012’s Casa de Mi Padre is a real film! The movie is styled like an “overly dramatic telenovela,” and tells the story of Armando Alvarez (Ferrell), who must save his father’s ranch from a powerful drug lord (Gael García Bernal). Rotten Tomatoes suggested that “Casa de mi Padre would have worked better as a fake trailer or short film” – so maybe it should have been a prank after all!
