Microsoft finally makes nice with Android, releases My Xbox LIVE app. The rapture is coming!

Just the other day I was lamenting Microsoft’s snub of Android devices with their exclusion from any official Xbox LIVE app. When they announced SmartGlass at E3 and it’s ability to slide items over to the Xbox 360 from smartphones, I cried just a tad. Never mind that I (and others) might want mobile app access to my profile but new tech makes me happy! Why would you wound me MS?

Maybe my tears and sacrifices under the full moon caught the attention of the team at Redmond because they just released the official My Xbox LIVE app to the Google Play store! At long last I can grab my supa dupa phone, pull up my long list of achievements, check in on my short list of friends and even pretty up my avatar if I want. The features available are pretty standard for an app but the mere existence of it is a minor miracle! The app’s features (straight from Google Play) are:

  • Track and compare achievements with LIVE friends
  • Change up your 3D avatar
  • Message Xbox LIVE friends
  • Edit LIVE profile

As of now, we have no idea if the app will be included in the compatible apps for SmartGlass or the rumored Xbox streaming when they burst forth but we can hope! The app is fun in the new car way and it runs pretty good right now. My avatar pops up just like it does on my Xbox which is damn nice and my friends list works fairly well, sans their own avatars. We’ll keep an eye on how MS updates the app and keep you geeks informed!
