Film adaptations of comic books has become an ever so regular occurrence these days, The Avengers is about to pass the $600 million mark, one of only three films to do so. However these adaptations tend to be geared towards a more universal audience, even the Caped Crusader was void of any real violence. Perhaps Hollywood is afraid that violence and comic-books-turned-films is not a healthy formula, just look at the financial failure of The Watchmen. However it seems there is a new Sheriff in town and all that’s about to change.

Judge Dredd was originally adapted from its original graphic novel form in 1995 with Sylvester Stallone as the law enforcer himself. Later this year though Karl Urban, star of other adaptations like RED and Doom, will don the iconic helmet and bring law back to Mega-City-One. The story follows Dredd and his partner Judge Anderson, played by Olivia Thilby, as they attempt to stop a drug dealer known as “Ma-Ma” and her trafficking of the reality altering drug “Slo-Mo”. The trailer screams hardcore action and is oddly reminiscent of one of this years biggest action films The Raid. Dredd is due to be released on 21st September of this year.
