“But there is already a Walking Dead video game?” I hear you cry, thinking of Telltale games’ episodic thriller. Alas, just as zombie fever has gripped media across the world, Activision have announced that they, in conjunction with Terminal Realities, will be releasing a The Walking Dead game sometime in 2013 and is due to be released on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. However, unlike Telltale’s game which is based around the original comics, Activision’s game is based on the popular AMC television show.
The game will have you play as the cross bow toting Daryl as you, with brother Merle, travel on a “haunting, unforgiving quest to make their way to the supposed safety of Atlanta.” If you remember from the early on in The Walking Dead TV show Merle was the utterly hateable racist who had to cut his own hand off; one You Tube user pointed out “Activision is making this like the anticod, instead of killing Nazi Zombies we are playing as Nazis killing Zombies!”. While Teltale’s game is less about gameplay and rather more story orientated, this TV-to-videogame adaptation will allow you to approach events as you wish. For instance, you can choose to take on zombies head on or conserve supplies and use stealth to move past them. Similarly, during the course of the game you will come across players who can accompany you- or you can just kill them.
While this does sound like very exciting news how will it compare to the epic story telling done by Telltale? Or could this be the zombie game that many have been waiting for since Left 4 Dead is now becoming quite an old (but not forgotten) game and titles like Dead Island haven’t quite hit the mark. What are your thoughts on this revelation. In the mean time feast your eyes on the first trailer for Activision’s zombie shooter.
