The Lord of the Rings was composed of three books, so yes three films. The Hobbit is only one book and substantially smaller than any of the books contained within TLOTR, so my fears are that there will be a great deal of fluff filling.

If Jackson is set on building up a more complete history of the events that led to TLOTR then maybe he should consider filming The Silmarillion. There’s at least a trillogy in that bad boy.
