Old school gamers remember the glory days of getting a fresh copy of Nintendo Power in the mail. It was full of tips, tricks, previews and more plus everyone remembers “Howard and Nester“! I still have my Official Final Fantasy Strategy Guide they sent me waaaaaay back in the 90′s. The magazine was a repository of all things Nintendo and sure it was biased but did we really blame them? It was freaking Nintendo man! I hid my copies in my trapper keeper, under loose sheets of paper so I could read them on the down low. Dog eared my favorite tips and even wrote them to be a tester, which they politely declined my services but did send me a fat book of codes. I miss those days, days which will be no more.
Sadly, NP will be more in the very near future. A rumor quickly spun into reality as it seems Nintendo is not renewing their publishing agreement with Future Publishing and doesn’t seem to be willing to restart publishing the mag themselves. Future has gone on to say that Big N was also reluctant to work on any digital initiatives or online components that might have kept them alive. We’re not exactly sure which issue will be the last but it ends a 24 year run on console gaming’s oldest magazine. Sad day for old timers like myself.
Any geeks have some good old memories of flipping through the pages of Nintendo Power? Leave your memorial thoughts after the break.
