My iPhone 5 pre-order was a success!

iPhone 5 pre-ordering started today at 12:01 PST or in my case 3:01 EST. I was bound and determined the iPhone 5 would be mine. In preparations for this event I had a laptop, a desktop and my iPad ready just in case. On my laptop I opened my browser to AT&T‘s website which had a nifty little countdown telling me exactly how long before I could order. Ready on my desktop was the Apple Store which assured me they would be right back after maintenance.

In just a few minutes after 3:00 AM my desktop presented me with what I was waiting for, an iPhone 5 pre-order option.  I decided I would go with the white and silver 16 GB iPhone 5 and lo and behold everything went through on my first attempt. Shortly after I received an email from the Apple Store assuring me my order was being processed and that delivery would be on September 21st. Success was achieved and next week I shall be sporting a shiny new iPhone!

Apparently not everyone had the smooth pre-order experience I did. Several reports indicate that many online stores were knocked out by the overload of traffic. Others found websites selling the much sought after phone sluggish and error prone. Oddly enough the easiest and best success rate of orders were from Apple’s iOS app. That was actually my backup plan and why I readied my iPad but I figured would be a long-shot.

Reports from around the Internet are that if you didn’t place your order within the first hour after they went on sale you will receive your iPhone at a later date. Instead of the launch date delivery like I got, Apple’s online store was offering up the estimated shipping time of two weeks.

Did any of you geeks pre-order? If so we’d love to hear how your experience went. Keep it here for any and all relevant iPhone news and my thoughts of the iPhone 5 when I have it in my geek possession.
