What Do You Mean The Wii-U Has Sold Out?

I don’t think anybody expected to be hearing this statement, but numerous retailers in the US are running out of pre order stock, claiming that they are sold out of either the deluxe or the standard models of the Wii-U. Game Stop have sold all their deluxe models, while Best Buy and Sears have sold out of both. However if you are still looking to pre order either model, Walmart is still advertising available pre orders.

Suddenly the Wii-U has gone from the unknown console to what could be the present of the holiday season, a tradition started by its preprocessor. However a tradition started by the Wii may come back to haunt the Wii-U- the lack of availability. The Wii sold very well during the Christmas period following its launch, so well that for several months after it became nearly impossible to get your hands on one, with some going on sale for nearly double their retail price. However this Wii-U fever may have been caused by the recent release of information about the console, including the line up of games available at launch, by Nintendo.

However while there are pre order demand issues in North America, this is not a problem for other nations like Australia or the UK where pre orders are still in stock. Maybe the US has gone Wii-U mad or the rest of the world is just not that interested, it will be interesting to see whether the Wii-U will be able to keep up this steam when it is released in November for Europe and North America and December for Japan. I’m weary of Walmart’s preorders mainly due to the Star Wars preorder fiasco where they had to cancel a bunch of reservations on collectors editions because they didn’t have as many as they had taken money for.
