Microsoft finally gets around to rewarding gamers for their Gamerscore.

Those of us who’ve been hanging around on the Xbox 360 have heard plenty of the rumors revolving Gamerscore rewards. Everything from cashing those points in for freebies to an annual gift, yeah we’ve heard them all. Not too long ago, a new rumor made the rounds and this rumor had some teeth. Microsoft seemed to be getting off their rumps and giving something to those who acquire those little bits of digital crack. As with all of the other reward type rumors, it faded into the ether. Until now that is.

Microsoft surprised the Xbox crowd with the unveiling of their MyAchievements program, one that gives back to all the achievement whores out there. Players who have amassed a minimum of 3,000 GS will get a super special surprise during their birthday month. Don’t get too excited, the “value” of the prize is a sum of 25¢. If they happen to have at least 10,000 GS, they get that birthday prize as well as 1% back on all Xbox LIVE Marketplace purchases. Big time players who have a GS of 25,000 or more get 2% back on their XBLM purchases.

Some might not think it’s much but if one is a hardcore gamer and spends plenty of points, this can be a tasty treat. A couple things to note: the points back will be added to one’s account in the next month. As of now the program is slated to end June 30th and a max of 30,000 MS points can be earned during the program lifetime.

I say it’s about time, what about you geeks?
