I’m not entirely sure of the reason but I largely ignored Borderlands when it was released in 2009. I bought the game shortly after it released but never played it until I decided to give it a go a couple of weeks before its sequel came out this past September. I can’t believe I let this game and all its awesomeness be shoved to the back of my game catalog. I was immediately hooked and made Borderlands 2 a must have day one purchase.

Even though I’m only about halfway through my journey to Pandora in Borderlands 2 I’m excited for the release of next weeks pirate themed DLC “Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate’s Booty.” This is the first of four DLC packs and will be $9.99 or 800 Microsoft points. There’s also the Borderlands 2 season pass to consider which for $29.99/2,400 Microsoft points will net you all for DLC packs as they are released for a cheaper price.

Captain Scarlet and Her Pirate’s Booty takes place in the slums of Oasis which is overrun by bandits. Generally pirates are associated with water and ships but the setting here will be similar to Tatooine and will feature a new vehicle called the Sand Skiff. Also added to the DLC will be a new type of currency, seraph crystals.

It’s not necessary for you to have completed the main game to play Captain Scarlet. It’s also possible for any level of player to jump in and start hunting for pirate booty.

Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate’s Booty will be available for download on October 16.
