It’s that time again… Convention season and the herds of geeks are upon us! I recently went to Walker Stalker Con San Francisco and had a great time while I was there. Then it dawned on me that I needed to make the ultimate convention essentials survival list for you geeks!

Conventions are fun, but let’s face it, they can also be brutal! Whether you’re attending cannabis conventions or Cosplayer conventions, you’ll need some supplies to get you through the whole weekend! Here is a list of essential items to prepare you for a convention.

1. Bag of Holding

bag of holding
There are many reasons why you need this glorious bag. For one thing, it’s called the “Bag of Holding” and any old school geek who has played D&D knows why this bag holds itself above the rest!

I personally own one of these bags and it is quite large. It holds up to its own name! (Pun intended.) With many pockets, rest assured you will be able to fit not only all of your essentials, but all of the goodies you plan to buy up at the convention.

You can get this awesome bag from ThinkGeek right here!

2. Snacks/Water

snacks1Snacks are a great thing to have on you at the convention. There are so many lines and you’ll be there all day long standing in them so more than likely you’ll get hungry. Sure there are probably places to get something to eat, but those places probably have big lines, too! Be sure to pack an assortment of goodies with you and enough that you can share with the people you showed up with. You may even save someone’s life if they’ve fainted from starvation!

Speaking of fainting, you’ll want to make sure you have as equally enough water to stay hydrated. There is nothing worse than walking around the entire convention feeling like a desert has formed on your tongue. It is important to stay hydrated throughout the day, but be sure to know where the bathrooms are because I can assure you that those have long lines too!

3. Back Up Power Source

812nxbrqMaL._SL1500_Nothing is worse than having your phone die at 11:00am. Trust me, I know! How are you going to keep in contact with those you came to the convention with? What if they leave you for the hotel and you’re stuck without a hotel key and a ride? That would completely suck. Well, that won’t happen to you because you’ll be prepared! You’ll have a back up power source to charge your phone with! Thank goodness!

You’re probably wondering why I’m recommending that you get power source. This is so you don’t have to go searching for an available outlet that isn’t in use and you can continue on your merry way down the isles of all of the vendors. Just plug your phone into it and leave it in your bag and you won’t have to be attached to a wall for any longer than you need to be.

I would recommend the Jackery Giant+. If you’d like to get one, you can get one from here.

4. Camera

Cameras are a good thing to have on hand with you at any conventions. Unlike smartphones, they can generally carry a larger capacity of pictures (and of better quality… depending on the camera and the SD card) and you won’t need to drain your phone from every time you want your picture with a celebrity or cosplayer.

Although I use a DSLR camera for media, I’d still recommend this Canon PowerShot for those of you who want a lighter load, high quality photos, and a great zoom lens. If you’d like one, you can get it here!

5. Sharpies

I ALWAYS keep Sharpies on hand! You never know when you’ll run into someone famous. Having a variety of different colored sharpies are good too, especially for items of darker colors. Black doesn’t show up very well on black or dark background colors. If you can get them to sign with a silver or gold Sharpie (whichever may suit the color scheme of your item) then it can show up better than using just a plain black one (although they are still good for signing white items or light-colored items).

You can get Sharpies virtually at any store that would carry office supplies, but if you’re like me and don’t like leaving the house, you can order it from here!

And that my friends, is my list of essentials that you may want to consider bringing with you to a convention. I do know this list can be expanded though, so what other essentials would you add to this? What other things do you bring with you to a convention? Let us know in the comments below!
