It’s finally 2018! I’m sure most of you have come up with some New Year’s resolutions – whether yours is eating healthier, or being a nicer person. Now, these may seem quite farfetched, so let’s try something a little more feasible. Why not add reading to the mix of resolutions? Here are 8 highly anticipated fiction books being released in 2018!
1. ‘The Hazel Wood’ by Melissa Albert
The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert is said to be released January 30th. Melissa’s book revolves around fairy tales, authors, and fantastical mysteries. Seventeen-year-old Alice finds out her mother has gone missing, at the hands of someone who claims to be from her late grandmother’s stories. 2. ‘The Cruel Prince’ (The Folk of the Air #1) by Holly Black
The Cruel Prince by Holly Black was released on January 2nd. Holly Black has quite a few fantasy books out there. So, I’m interested in seeing how this compares. Taking place among Faeries and High Kingdoms, seven-year-old Jude is more than fascinated by their lives. However, the Court has other plans for her, as she must fight for her place as a human alongside the Faeries. You can buy the book here!
3. ‘The Case for Jamie’ (Charlotte Holmes #3) by Brittany Cavallaro
The good ole’ Charlotte Holmes stories are back! Brittany Cavallaro brought the mystery of Sherlock back to life, with this soon-to-be trilogy, The Case for Jamie. It takes place in modern times, as if Sherlock Holmes and John Watson existed now. Except this time, it’s their relatives who run the show. With murders and suspicions around them, the new Holmes and Watson have their hands full. This 3rd, and probably final book, is said to be released on March 6th. 4. ‘#PrettyBoy Must Die’ by Kimberly Reid
There’s nothing like a good Contemporary/Thriller. Kimberly Reid will soon hook us up with some undercover CIA fun! This new book revolves around a former foster-kid, Jake Morrow, who is now a CIA operative. 5. ‘Love, Hate and Other Filters’ by Samira Ahmed
Samira Ahmed is debuting a coming of age novel that delves into the real-life struggles faced today. Love, Hate and Other Filters dives into the life of Maya, an Indian-American Muslim teenage girl, who deals with everyday problems with her parents. For example, what her parents expect of her in her life, and how it contradicts her own feelings. When a crime involving a suicide bomber takes place many miles away, her life is turned upside down. 6. ‘Zenith’ (The Androma Saga #1) by Sasha Alsberg & Lindsay Cummings
A book about female space pirates? I’m in! Zenith, which is being released January 16th, is a Young Adult Sci-Fi novel. This novel takes place in the Mirabel Galaxy, in a glass starship called Marauder. They go about their mercenary work until a dangerous mission crosses this crew. 7. ‘To Kill a Kingdom’ by Alexandra Christo
There have been many fairy tale retellings published in the book world recently. However, this isn’t Disney, as this Little Mermaid retelling seems to be a unique one. A princess named Lira is part of siren royalty. The book takes you into her life, which is drastically changed after a punishment from her Sea Queen. The princess has killed one of her own! Then, Lira is made into a human – yuck! She must go through a journey of trials to return back to her normal form. 8. ‘Obsidio’ (The Illuminae Files #3) by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
The Illuminae Files are back with Obsidio! This is the 3rd and possibly final book, which is slated to be released on March 13th. The first two books are called Illuminae, and Gemina, which were very hyped last year. These books are written through documents, data, emails, and also pictures. This different form of writing takes the books to another level, as does the plot. This time around, Kady, Ezra, Hanna, and Nik have escaped the attacks on Heimdall station.
