Daenerys Targaryen is no doubt a major player in the Game of Thrones, this season alone she is conquering like no other. It seems her line of “I take what is mine” rings true for the actress behind her as well, because Emilia Clarke was not the first choice for the Mother of Dragons.
In the pilot episode of the series, there was a completely different actress all together to play the part. Apparently, the first pilot was “so bad” that the HBO creators decided to nix the whole thing entirely and start over. After Clarke tested for the role, the original Khaleesi was let go. Curious to see what could (and shouldn’t) have been?
The actress originally set to play Daenerys was none other than Tamzin Merchant. She is most known for her work in Salem and The Tudors. Though Merchant is no doubt a talented actress, looking at her body of work I don’t think she would have done the character the justice that Clarke does. There is a fire in Emilia Clarke’s eyes and that works perfectly when playing the Mother of Dragons.
So what do you Geeks think? Do you think Tamzin could have pulled it off? Sound off in the comments below!
