written by Jason Marcano August 2, 2016

Looks like the random appearance of a trophy list for Ape Escape 2 that surfaced four days ago wasn’t so random after all. With little fanfare, Sony has released Ape Escape 2 onto the PlayStation Store today (August 2, 2016).

As you can see, the game is $9.99 or just $7.49 if you a member of PS Plus. Either way it’s a solid game. One well worth the price of admission.

There is a notable graphical upgrade in the visuals as well. Textures have been smoothed out, and the draw distance has been greatly improved. Here a couple comparison shots.

The difference is even more apparent in the gameplay trailer released by Sony:

The PS4 version of this PS2 classic seems to be sticking to the protagonist’s Japanese name of Hikaru instead of Jimmy as he was known in America. Other than that, it’s the same game you know and love. If you don’t know it and love it yet, you will.

So geeks, you should definitely snag this one up ASAP. It’s a forgotten PS2 gem that truly deserves any gamers time. Especially if you’re a fan of platformers. Ape Escape 2 is now available on PSNIf you plan on downloading it, do so soon. The price, according to the PlayStation Store, is only available Aug. 2 – Aug. 9 at 10:00AM. This gives you one week to get it for $9.99 or $7.49, and who knows how it will change after that.
