Bad news, Ghostbeater fans: Ash Williams and his boomstick will be retiring after the airing of the season 3 finale of Ash Vs. Evil Dead on April 29, 2018.
Bruce Campbell himself tweeted Friday afternoon that the show “has been a ride of a lifetime”.
Ash Vs Evil Dead has been the ride of a lifetime. Ash Williams was the role of a lifetime.
I will always be grateful to Starz, Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and our tireless fans for the opportunity to revisit the franchise that launched our careers. Thank you! 😎 pic.twitter.com/oNmTopS1Ab

For those of you who don’t know, the chainsaw-wielding character of Ash Williams was first introduced on screen in the 1981 film Evil Dead, a movie about five friends who accidentally read from the Necronomicon and unleash demons which would be called Deadites. Evil Dead was labeled as “horror”, but those who have seen it know that it is a campy-style horror film.
Though there were sequels (Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness) and a reboot in 2013, there was still room for more to the story of Ash Williams. What had he ended up doing with his life? Where was he now? In 2015, fans got that answer when Ash Vs. Evil Dead premiered on Starz. It was gory in a cheesy way and campy. It included everything we had loved about the original films and the character of Ash Williams, but that was not enough.
In March, Bruce Campbell began to talk about if the series were not renewed after its current third season. At an Evening with Bruce event at an Irish Film Institute, Campbell told the crowd:
“If they cancel it, I think Ash is done. I have lavender on my property. I’m going to smoke weed and hang out.”
I myself saw this quote a month ago but refused to believe that Ash Williams would no longer be on TV. I loved the movies, have very much enjoyed the series, and am incredibly sad that it is coming to an end. I, for one, will miss watching Ash, Kelly, and Pablo fight evil every week.
