Back to the Beginning: Assassin’s Creed Origins Revealed at E3

written by Jordan Cobb June 12, 2017

Despite the numerous amounts of leaks before its official reveal, it was confirmed at the XBox presentation of this year’s E3 conference that UbiSoft will have another installment into the Assassin’s Creed series. You may now either celebrate in excitement or sigh at the thought of yet another game from the series. I’m somewhere caught in the middle. Here is our first look at Assassin’s Creed Origins.

The first thing of note with Origins is discovering how this is now the earliest the game as been set since we’re going to Egypt in 49 BCE. I can safely say I’d never expect the series to go THAT far back in history, but here we are as we uncover the beginnings of the Brotherhood, which does peak my interest a little bit.

As mentioned, a good number of gamers by this point have been burnt out on the Creed series given its constant release of games year after year and some of the most notable glitches in recent memory. You can count me among them as my once budding love for this rich new mythology turned sour.

Yet, I am a little excited by this. I mean first of all, EAGLE! That is awesome and also the introduction of an upgrade system is certainly intriguing for a series such as this. Also scaling the pyramids, themselves should provide plenty of fun in of itself. Then there is our protagonist, Bayek, described as an “Egyptian sheriff.” He appears to be a captivating figure already and could provide a character worth following for hours upon hours.

Certainly surprising was the reveal of its release date of later this year on October 27. Of course it will be available on XBox One and PlayStation 4.

Will this be a return to form for Assassin’s Creed or could this release be the nail that seals its coffin? We’re gonna have to wait and find out.
