Batman has always had one of the best villain rosters in comic book history. It’s no surprise that after multiple movies we’ve still only scratched the surface of characters that can do battle with the Dark Knight on the big screen.
“I have ideas about an arc, but really, the important thing is just to start… you have to start with one,” he said. “You know, you have to start with a story that begins something. And I would be lying if I could tell you that the arcs of Apes was already planned out, because it simply wasn’t; it’s one of those things where that character was so potent, and the possibility was embedded from the beginning, but exactly how you’ve got from A to Z is not something that existed.”
Reeves also hinted at how his storytelling has evolved working on the Apes movies and how it will affect his decisions moving into the DCEU.
When Mark and I began Dawn, we knew what our goals were, but we didn’t know how we were gonna get there, and I would say that more relates to the way that I see a Batman story, is a kind of ambition for a series of stories, but really the most important thing is gonna be to tell a vital first story.”
And what a first story it will be! We’ve learned recently that Batman’s first solo movie will favor heavily on his detective skills with the phrase ‘film noir’ thrown in for good measure as well. We’ve still only seen a tiny percentage of Ben Affleck as Batman but I’m a firm believer that he’ll continue to nail the character. For me, he’s the best Bruce Wayne since Keaton. I’ll hide from the internet behind my couch after that comment!
What do you look forward to seeing in Affleck’s first solo Batman movie? Let us know in the comments!
