The Batman may be further away than we previously thought.
Fans all over the world had mixed emotions about Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. While there have been numerous mixed reviews of DC Comics’ biggest film to date, one thing has been pretty universally well received: Ben Affleck as The Batman.
We recently reported that Justice League Part 2 was going to be pushed back to make room for Affleck’s solo bat-flick, The Batman. I’m sure most fans, me included, can’t wait to see what Affleck and the recently cast Joe Manganiello (Deathstroke) bring to The Dark Knight’s latest film endeavor, it doesn’t sound like Ben is in any rush to get the movie made.
Affleck said in a Facebook live stream with The New York Times:
“I’m a real believer in not doing, not reverse engineering projects to meet a window or a date, but rather like when you get the right story or you get the right idea or you get the right thing, then you make the movie.”
Affleck also said that he wants nothing more than to direct an, “iconic, great Batman movie.”
Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes revealed earlier this year that The Batman might be “a year and a half out.”
Fans that are excited about the next standalone Batman film might be a little disappointed by the news. I, for one, can’t wait to see what Affleck brings to the table as he’s writing and starring in The Batman. I’m glad that he’s taking his time to put out a great product, especially when most of the major gripes about the DC movies have been about them shoehorning characters and plots into their films in an effort to catch up to Marvel.
