You know what’s the best roller coaster ride I’ve ever been on? Ben Affleck as Batman! So many twists and turns, ups and downs, and that huge plunge wondering what’s going to happen next? Its just the best!
By now you’ve all been reading the various bits of news when Affleck took on the role from fan reaction when he was cast to the development of his solo adventure with script rewrites and director changes abound! It has become one of the best soap operas ever!
But now that might all change since it seems like Warner Bros. is ready to give the cape and cowl to someone else.
The Hollywood Reporter has reported that Warner is looking to gracefully usher out Affleck as the DC superhero and bringing in a new actor. Mind you all this is being talked about right as Affleck is heading to San Diego Comic-Con this weekend for a panel about the upcoming Justice League film. Great timing!
Now as far as the graceful exit goes, it would most likely seem that Affleck as Bruce Wayne could possibly be killed off in the upcoming or future Justice League films and someone like say Dick Grayson would step into the role or Bruce would more or less step back as someone else takes up the mantle, which has been a recurring theme in the comic books themselves. Matt Reeves would then have his own Batman he could work with for his proposed trilogy of films and whatever Zack Snyder needs to do, he may or may not use Affleck as Bruce.
Affleck’s age of 45 might be a factor as well, but we just saw Robert Downey Jr. again as Tony Stark/Iron Man in Spider-Man: Homecoming and he’s just the ripe old age of 52.
Yet studio chief at Warner Toby Emmerich said, “Ben is our Batman. We love him as Batman. We want to keep him in the cowl as long as we can.”
Well I’m going back in line to ride again! This is just getting too good!
What do you guys think of the news? Do you still want Affleck in the role? Who do you want to play Batman? Let us know in the comments below!
UPDATE: At the Warner Bros. panel for San Diego Comic-Con yesterday, Affleck gave a comment on said reports saying, “Let me be very clear: I am the luckiest guy in the world. Batman is the coolest part in any universe — DC, Marvel. It’s incredible. … I’m so thrilled to do it.”
He went on to further add about the rumors that, “I know there was a misconception that because I didn’t direct it that I wasn’t enthusiastic about it. [But] it’s f***ing amazing. And I still can’t believe I’ve done two films and have this great history with this studio.
“I would be an ape on the ground for Matt Reeves — nevermind being Batman. So I’m really blown away and excited, and it’s a great time in the DC Universe.”
Looks like Affleck won’t be going anywhere soon.
