Bethesda is aiming upward
Bethesda games, maker of such giant hits such as Skyrim and Fallout is trying to change the game. Well not just the game, it’s the game, the hardware, and the way we play. Announced this year at E3, Starfield is Bethesda’s newest game. However, it isn’t ready for the masses. In a recent interview with Eurogamer, Bethesda director and executive producer Todd Howard told the website some cryptic and exciting things. This all started back at E3 with the below teaser and used the words “next-generation game”
So what is Starfield?
Starfield’s teaser gives us very little to go off of. It is obvious this will be a sci-fi adventure game. We have had it confirmed that the game will be a single player RPG. This makes sense considering Bethesda’s past games like Skyrim. So will this be Skyrim in space? Considering they keep mentioning “next-generation,” I think it’s safe to say this game will be massive. Also to note, it is probably not a Star Trek game. They have mentioned it is an original IP. I’m hoping spaceships, lasers, and a massive terrifying galaxy. Like Kerbal Space Program meets GTA meets Skyrim.
What does “Next-Generation” really mean?
From the look of the trailer, this game is going to be beautiful. The graphics look like they might break current consoles too. PC master race people rejoice as it’s most likely going to hit them before it comes to the current consoles. So back to Next-Generation, Howard said it best in his interview;
“What systems we put it out on – what’s the hardware requirements – is still to be determined. We’re pushing it; we’re thinking very, very far in future so we’re building something that will handle next-generation hardware. That’s what we’re building on right now, that’s where our mind is, but that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t exist on the current systems as well.”
Very, very far future. So does that mean this decade? Apparently, they registered the trademark about five years ago so this really is a long plan. So where do we stand? Howard told Eurogamer that they do have a playable version testing at Bethesda right now. Maybe we’ll see it in the next year or so, or maybe we will have to wait for the next consoles and new hardware that isn’t even made yet. ‘Til then we’ll just have to wonder and hope. I personally cannot wait for this game to drop and all I have to go off of is this short teaser.
