Black Lightning Now to Strike at The CW Rather Than Fox

written by Jordan Cobb February 3, 2017

A while ago it was reported that a TV show based upon DC Comics superhero Black Lightning was in development from Greg Berlanti, producer behind pretty much all of the DC Comics adapted shows on The CW and Riverdale, and Salim and Mara Brock Akil. It has since been reported that after being shipped around all the major TV networks that it landed at Fox. Well now it has found a new home.

Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that Black Lightning Has been picked up for a pilot order at The CW, thus making it the possible fifth DC Comics superhero series on the television network. iZombie doesn’t count, that’s based off a Vertigo book. I can argue semantics for hours!

Black Lightning on CW seems appropriate given all the other superheroes established on there and with how family oriented the character is in addition to being a high school principal, it certainly does make him standout among all the other superheroes on TV, but this does have to be seen as a big loss to Fox as well. I mean they have success in Gotham and Lucifer and they have the upcoming X-Men pilot too, but Black Lightning would have put them on par with Netflix’s Luke Cage as they would have their own African-American led superhero series as well.

No word is out as of yet if Black Lightning will be involved with the Arrowverse and all the other shows on The CW or why the show is switching networks, but it is worth pointing out that Riverdale was originally developed for Fox before it jumped over to The CW. Maybe The CW just offers better bagels on set between takes.

What’s your take on the news, geeks? Are you still excited for a Black Lightning series? Who do you want to play the titular hero? Let us know in the comments below!
