When news came out that Vixen would be re-casted for Legends of Tomorrow, some thought that was it for Megalyn Echikunwoke in the role. That won’t be the case anymore.
Its announced that the Vixen we’ll see in the upcoming second season of the time traveling superhero show, will be her grandmother, Amaya Jiwe. The very first Vixen. The Originals actress Maisie Richardson-Sellers will take on the role of Mari McCabe’s grandmother and join season two as a series regular.
The generations separated superheroes will have one big thing in common, their powers. When either of them wear the Tantu Totem, they can magically access and mimic the abilities of any animal that has ever existed. Pinned down in a gun fight? Call upon the speed of a cheetah. Super locked door? Gorilla pound it down. Fly away like an eagle from an exploding warehouse. The totem is passed through generations, which more than gives Legends an in to cast a new actress for the part.
Vixen debuted in the Arrowverse via an animated web series on the CW Seed streaming service where she was voiced by Echikunwoke herself. Echikunwoke then reprised the role in live-action on the latest season of Arrow. With Sellers on Legends, Echikunwoke will still be able to voice Marie on the upcoming second season of Vixen.
Vixen debuted in DC Comics in Action Comics #521 back in 1981 written by Gerry Conway, co-creator of The Punisher and Firestorm, and drawn by Bob Oksner.
