The move from CBS to The CW wasn’t the only one made by Supergirl. Production for the hit superhero series was moved from Los Angeles to Vancouver, where pretty much all the other DC Comics shows on The CW are filmed. That move also meant one of the show’s key players might not have come back to the series at all.
Not the case anymore as its been confirmed that Cat Grant herself, Calista Flockhart will remain on the series, but as a recurring guest star for the 22-episode second season. Rumors started about this since her contract stipulated she would be able to work in or near Los Angeles, which is where her home is located.
In a statement, Supergirl co-creator and executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said,
“Supergirl wouldn’t be Supergirl without the amazing Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant. We are so excited Calista has agreed to continue on the show when she can. We and the audience love to see her on screen.”
Not much is known right now as to how often we’ll see Flockhart on the show, but Kreisberg said she’ll be on there whenever she can. This is great news for the show as Flockhart is without a doubt the most high-profile name in the cast and her performance throughout the first season was constantly praised.
There had been ongoing discussions previous to this news on a deal being worked out since Flockhart expressed interest in remaining on the show. This uncertainty about her full return most likely led to the casting of Ian Gomez as Snapper Carr, the new editor-in-chief of CatCo Magazine, a possible replacement. Gomez is casted in a recurring capacity himself, but from what it sounds like might appear more often than Flockhart.
