Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia in Star Wars

Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia in Star WarsIt is with a great sense of loss that we are reporting the death of beloved actress Carrie Fisher. She had suffered cardiac arrest on a flight from London to Los Angeles on Friday. After being transported to a local hospital, she was in critical condition before stabilizing. Carrie’s daughter, Billie Lourd, announced that she had passed this morning:

It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning

She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.

Carrie Fisher was the daughter of Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher, and grew up in show business. She regularly spoke about showbiz being normal for her, and how she didn’t have any choice in it as a child. She began singing in her mother’s night club, and the rest is history.

Her big break, and the role she has become best known for, came as Leia Organa in Star Wars. She went on to star in 3 more Star Wars films, with a 4th in post-production now. She became an icon in the world of film, and will certainly be missed by all.

In addition to her work in movies such as The Blues Brothers and When Harry Met Sally, Carrie authored several books, movie screenplays, and plays. Her most recent memoir, The Princess Diarist revealed her on-set affair with co-star Harrison Ford. She has also spoken openly about her struggles with substance abuse, and how she overcame them.

Carrie Fisher will not only be remembered as Princess Leia, but as a beautiful human being. Countless people everywhere have been influenced by her on-screen performances, her character, and her accessible humanity. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this time, as we remember this amazing person together.

Thank you for everything, Carrie. May the Force be with you.
