On Monday it was confirmed that Stana Katic, who played Detective Beckett for 8 years, was leaving the hit show Castle. Today Nathan Fillion addressed the departure of his long time co-star on his official Twitter:
Castle has been one of the greatest joys of my creative life, and I hope the show continues on for years to come.Stana has been my partner all this time, and I thank her for creating the character of Beckett who will live on for all of us as one of the greatest police officers on television. I wish her well, and have no doubt she will succeed in everything she pursues. She will be missed.
ABC’s Castle began with a simple premise. When a serial killer imitates the plot of his novels, Rick Castle (played by Fillion) receives permission from the mayor to tag along with Detective Beckett. In the process of aiding her investigation she becomes his muse for a new series of racy detective novels. From there the show continued to evolve and grow this relationship and its diverse cast of characters powering its ratings along with its two head stars.
The decision to renew the hit show for a ninth season has not been made and it is not, currently, among the list of 15 shows that ABC recently renewed. Time will tell if Nathan Fillion continues to grace our screens as Castle. If not, can someone finally make the decision to do a Firefly remake? Please?
