‘Adventure Time’ Producer Fred Seibert Possibly Working on ‘Castlevania’ Animated Series

written by Jason Marcano December 30, 2016

Back in August of 2015 Dredd and Punisher: Dirty Laundry producer Adi Shankar said he was working on a “super violent Castlevania mini-series” with Fred Seibert, the producer of Adventure Time and The Fairly Oddparents. In an interview with Collider, Shankar said the series would follow the story of Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse. Citing classic anime like Akira and Ghost in the Shell, Shankar said his show would contain a ton of violence/gore.

“The goal is to bring hard hitting anime to the America and be America’s first animated series for adults.”

It certainly seemed like a surefire success. A beloved gaming series that’s seen world-wide releases for nearly 30 years would most definitely make it as an animated series. Gothic landscapes, vampires, and whips – what could go wrong? Well, since that announcement back in 2015, it seemed any hope of a Castlevania animated series had crawled back into its coffin for a centuries long slumber as no news has been heard since.

The lid to the coffin may have be re-opened however during a Nick Animation Podcast. In the podcast Fred Seibert made mention of an unnamed project that certainly sounds like the forgotten Castlevania series. He says that this project is “based on one of the most world-famous video games of the last 30 years.” Seibert also mentions that the project has been “in the shop” for nearly 12 years, that they have “…great characters and a great story…”

While it’s only an assumption that Seibert is talking about Castlevania in the podcast, it’s not too far a reach. With Adventure Time wrapping up in 2018, there’s no doubt Seibert is hard at work on a follow up show. How great would it be if that show was one about the adventures of the whip cracking Trevor Belmont?

We’ll be sure to keep you geeks posted on any news regarding Castlevania and it’s possible animated series. In the mean time, what game or story line would you want the series to follow? Which legendary vampire slayer should be the main character? Let us know who and what your favorite Castlevania heroes and games are in the comments below.
