It’s a stretch, but the only thing CD Projekt RED has currently in development, that we know of, is Gwent and Cyberpunk 2077. On the E3 page section detailing their categories for their exhibition slot, the studio has been given “Role-Playing” under PC, Xbox One and PS4. Although I’m sure CD Projekt RED will show some things that have to do with Gwent, methinks this coming E3 will be the big gameplay reveal (fingers crossed) for Cyberpunk 2077.
Cyberpunk 2077 has been in development for quite some time, but with only a debut trailer to speak of back in 2013 (not to mention the mysterious “*beep*” tweet earlier this year):
CD Projekt RED has also stated that, although Geralt’s adventures could be revisited, they are finished with The Witcher series for the time being. In a 2016 interview with Eurogamer, CD Projekt RED co-founder Marcin Iwinski stated:
“As we said before, never say never [but] right now it’s really Blood and Wine. This is the end. Blood and Wine is [the] closing and there won’t be any Witcher any time soon – if there ever will be one. And I would really like to see how people feel about it, if they will enjoy it.”
Around that time, the Polish studio revealed a 6 year plan that included not only Cyberpunk 2077 to be released, but another RPG as well! When asked about it, Iwinski responded:
“We are a publicly traded company so we cannot comment on that but I can assure you we are not working on another Witcher,”
The plan indicated “a new type of video game format previously unexplored by the studio”. What does this mean? Well, it’s coming from the studio that made the beautiful Witcher 3, so I’m just waiting in anticipation. My honest guess? CD Projekt RED is venturing into a VR-exclusive RPG.
