We’ve been successfully bluffed, but the poker face is finally showing us his hand.
Despite rumors earlier this week that he was leaving the upcoming Gambit movie, Channing Tatum (GI Joe, Magic Mike) has officially signed on to play the titular Cajun mutant, also know as Remy LeBeau, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Gambit, for those not up on the X-Men comics, is an on-again-off-again X-Man and world-class thief with the power to kinetically charge inorganic objects and steal our hearts.
Sources have allegedly confirmed that there were some uneasy hands dealt earlier this week during negotiations, which then fueled rumors that Tatum had walked away from the movie altogether. These issues have since been smoothed over, apparently, and things are moving along. Though I am not completely sold on the idea of Channing Tatum filling the role of one of my favorite all time mutants (being Acadian myself), I am excited that this news means that the movie is moving forward at a positive pace. It is more than a little likely I will let out a fanboy squeal upon his first, second, and even third “chère” and “mon ami”.
Gambit is expected to arrive in theaters on October 7, 2016, directed by Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes), and co-produced by Tatum himself.
Are you excited for this newest attempt at a solo-mutant movie? Is Gambit a strong enough character to hold up a movie by himself without the power of the X around him? Let us know in the comments!
