Your favorite fire gal is back, and better than ever. Sophie Turner recently posed on the cover of Entertainment Weekly as Dark Phoenix. Her red locks match the heat coming from within her skin. She’s like a cooler, more complex lava girl.
You last saw Sophie as Jean Grey (aka Phoenix) in X-Men Apocalypse. Her powers were starting to build, and this cover shows that. So, it will be interesting to see Simon Kinberg bring Dark Phoenix to life in the new movie and if fans will be more receptive to Turner’s portrayal than they were back in X-Men: The Last Stand. X-Men: Dark Phoenix will arrive in theaters on November 2nd, 2018.
This movie is bringing back the characters of X-Men Apocalypse, such as Charles Xavier. Although, this movie takes place 10 years after Apocalypse. Kinberg had a clear idea of how he wanted Dark Phoenix portrayed, as he describes his reason for directing the film
“[The film] was so clear in my head, emotionally and visually, that it would have killed me to hand this to somebody else to direct.”
Jean Grey becomes Dark Phoenix
Jean Grey takes on her darkest side, as Dark Phoenix pushes through. EW states that Sophie Turner prepared for this role by studying multiple personality disorders, along with schizophrenia. Let’s hope this studying allows Sophie to portray Jean and her struggles, accurately.
X-Men Apocalypse left you off with Charles Xavier leading his team of newly found heroes. He sends them off to complete ever greater missions. As Xavier mentors his team, he deals with his own demons as Simon Kinsberg explains.
“Pride is starting to get the better of him, and he is pushing the X-Men to more extreme missions,”
So, are you excited to see the gang back together? Quicksilver, Mystique, Beast, Storm, Nightcrawler, are all returning for X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Prepare for the upcoming movie by having an X-Men marathon. Let us know your thoughts on the portrayal of Dark Phoenix by Sophie Turner.
