Starz has announced the expansion of the John Wick universe. The Continental will tell the story of the Continental Hotel, a place where the world’s deadliest assassins find refuge.

This exciting new venture into the John Wick universe comes to Starz thanks to the new partnership between Starz and Lionsgate. The production company acquired the premium cable network in 2016; Lionsgate also distributed and owns the rights to John Wick.

Starz CEO Chris Albrecht said at the Television Critics Association winter press tour:

The Continental promises to include the thunderous fight sequences and intensely staged shootouts between professional assassins and their targets that fans have come to expect in the John Wick movie franchise as well as introducing some new, darkly compelling characters who inhabit this underground world.

The show and movies are set to run side by side so there will be no conflict and should run fluidly together.

Starz already has the production team lined up. Chris Collins (The Man in the High Castle and Sons of Anarchy) will write the series and serve as showrunner. The premiere will be directed by Chad Stahelski (John Wick 1&2).

Chris Collins will also be executive producing alongside the original franchise creative team, Chard Stahelski (John Wick – Chapter 2), Keanu Reeves, David Leitch (John Wick and Deadpool 2), screenwriter Derek Kolstad, and producer Basil Iwanyk. Stahelski will helm the premiere episode.

Reeves won’t star in the show, but we might see an appearance from the assassin at some point. I am also hoping Starz retain Ian McShane (American Gods) as the proprietor of the hotel.

John Wick – Chapter 3 is the third installment of the franchise. The movie is currently in pre-production and is said to be released in 2019.

So fellow fans, who’s excited? I know I am. Let us know your thoughts on this in the below comments.
