According to a press release by Marvel, principal photography has begun in Los Angeles for Captain Marvel. As rumors have it, Carol Danvers will make an appearance in the upcoming and highly anticipated Avengers: Infinity War, hopefully making a good first impression before we delve into her own story which will be set in the 90’s, predating all MCU narratives except Captain America: The First Avenger.

Captain Marvel was initially introduced to the world as Ms. Marvel in the Silver Age of comics in the late 70’s after her DNA was fused with that of a Kree superhero named Marv-Ell. Dr. Walter Lawson, the human alias of the Kree alien, saved her life from an explosion, giving her super-powers. She later became associated with the Avengers and the X-Men and is described as one of the strongest heroes in the Marvel Universe.

The all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the MCU will bring a set of familiar faces to our screens as per the cast announcement. These include Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson, Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, Djimon Hounsou as Korath the Pursuer and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, apparently with both his eyes intact! The Academy Award-winning Brie Larson will also be joined by newcomers Ben Mendelsohn, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, McKenna Grace, and Jude Law.

Production is being held in and around the greater Los Angeles, area which will also serve as the production base. The studio has also scheduled filming at other locations, including Fresno, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans.

Captain Marvel is directed by the writing/directing team of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. A collective of all-star writers has also lent a hand in producing the screenplay including Meg LeFauve (Walking Dead), Nicole Perlman (Thor, Guardians of the Galaxy), Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Tomb Raider), Liz Flahive (Homeland) and Carly Mensch (Orange is the New Black).

Marvel Studios’ “Captain Marvel” joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe on March 8, 2019!
