Danny McBride is set to star in a sequel to the legendary 80s cult film Crocodile Dundee.
According to the trailer, which you can see below, Brian Dundee (McBride) has returned to the land down under in search of his father ‘Crocodile’ Dundee (Paul Hogan).
In Dundee – The Son of a Legend Returns Home he is accompanied by Wally Jr. (Chris Hemsworth) on his quest and apparently even has the backing of the Australian Prime Minister himself (Hugh Jackman) in seeking the Australian legend.
Media mogul J.P. Steele (Russell Crowe) seems to be the antagonist in our story, who for some reason despises Dundee.
Set to be released sometime in the summer, the premise seems hilarious and will surely draw the crowds in.
Seems too good to be true, right? Well, if you think so, you’re correct.
The teasers and main trailer that was released over the weekend are part of guerrilla marketing campaign for Australian tourism. I mean hey whatever works right? The ad will run again during the upcoming Super Bowl.
Given that a similar campaign back in the 80s starring the original Crocodile Dundee increased American arrivals to Australia so we’re guessing that this campaign in the age of the internet will have a similar if a not better effect on Aussie tourism.
For those of you too young to have seen the original movies or are just nostalgic you can get a box-set of Crocodile Dundee I & II here.
I personally would vote that the Australian board of tourism go full on and produce the movie. I bet most of the actors would be good sports and do it pro-bono.
