One of the many new games announced at E3, Cyberpunk 2077 seems like an interesting mix of sci-fi, RPG, FPS, and Grand Theft Auto. The game is adapted from the tabletop game called Cyberpunk 2020, and takes place in Night City, California in the year of 2077, obviously. You play the role of V, a Cyberpunk who you can create and customize to how you want. The world is full of cyber-enhanced street warriors, tech-savvy net-runners and corporate life-hackers, just like you. Cyberpunk 2077 is being developed by CD Projekt Red best known for The Witcher series.
Night City is a dystopian themed open world. The city is deemed the worst place to live in America due to high crime and high poverty, but it’s your city and you love it. Towering skyscrapers house large corporations like MegaCorps, that manages every aspect of life. The streets are run by gangs, drug lords, tech hustlers and whatever the hell illegal ‘braindance slingers’ are. The game is intended for mature audiences and you will see full frontal nudity, drug use, alcohol consumption, sex, and rock and roll. Night City has been designed to be interactive, and CD Projekt RED, has said that the open world will not have loading screens. The city is divided into six unique districts to traverse.
The player character of V is customizable in every way, from hair, tattoos, and gender. One thing every V will have in common will be their jacket. Not only does the jacket make you look like an all around bad ass, but it will also give you stats and “street cred”. Street cred is a type of experience that lets you unlock new things in Night City. You will also be able to upgrade your own built-in tech to enhance all your abilities.
You will be able to drive around Night City as well. There is even the ability to lean out your vehicle to shoot things. The dialogue system will play out similar to something along the lines of Mass Effect. V will not just verbatim repeat what you choose, but put their own spin on it. Your Cyberpunk will be able to do all sorts of things. You can hack enemies, upgrade weapons, use your enhancements to scan for enemies, wall ride, mantle. Putting points into skills like strength, constitution, intelligence and reflexes will further enhance your abilities.
There is still no specific release date for Cyberpunk 2077. In the mean time you can watch the official trailer below:
