It’s no secret that the new female Ghostbusters reboot has been getting a lot of hate from the start. The trailer for the film was ranked as the most disliked in YouTube history. Melissa McCarthy recently spoke out against the haters saying “I have a visual of these people not having a [husband], not having friends, so they’re just sitting there and spewing hate into this fake world of the internet. I just hope they find a friend.”
McCarthy isn’t the only one to speak out against the haters. Dan Aykroyd who played Dr. Raymond Stantz in the original Ghostbusters movies took to Facebook and praised the new movie;
As originator of the original: Saw test screening of new movie. Apart from brilliant, genuine performances from the cast both female and male, it has more laughs and more scares than the first 2 films plus Bill Murray is in it! As one of millions of man-fans and Ray Stantz, I’m paying to see that and bringing all my friends!
Those are pretty strong words of support coming from one of the main men himself! The reboot is coming to theaters on July 15th and will star Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Kristen Wiig and Leslie Jones as the four Ghostbusters themselves. Co-starring in the film will be Chris Hemsworth as the dorky secretary. Also listed in the IMDB casting list is Sigourney Weaver, Ernie Hudson, and Aykroyd himself as the producer, so there will be many throwbacks for fans of the original movies.
There’s definitely a trend of previously male-led roles being turned over to females in comic books, movies and television. It’s not always a bad thing to switch up something old and make it fresh and new, though many die hard fans of the classics would strongly disagree. I know that I will go see this film, and I’m sure it’ll be enjoyable! What are your feelings on the reboot?
