2010’s Darksiders was the Zelda/God of War love child no one knew they wanted. Created by Nordic Games, it told the story of the first Horseman of the Apocalypse, War. It combined open world, dungeon exploration with viceral combat to great success. Darksiders sold over 1 million copies, was well received by critics, and garnered quite the fan-base. It was good enough to get a sequel in Darksiders II, this one was about the Horseman Death. While not as well received as War’s adventures, Darksiders II was still a solid entry.
Now, a new generation of gamers will get to experience the story of the Horseman War when Nordic Games releases Darksiders Warmaster Edition on October 25th. Coming to the PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Wii-U, the updated game is sporting all the modern bells and whistles.
- Native 1080p rendering resolution for console platforms
- 4k support and additional video options for PC
- Doubled all the texture resolutions
- Rendering improvements and rework
- Better shadow rendering quality
- Post processing effects
- 60 FPS in moment to moment gameplay (PS4, Xbox One, PC, 30 for WiiU)
Unfortunately the WiiU caps at 30fps, but it all sounds like a significant upgrade from the original nonetheless. The few screens provided by Nordic Games along with the announcement show off some of the updated textures and models, and the improvements are apparent.
The best news about this edition of the game? Nordic has declared the MSRP of Darksiders Warmaster Edition to be only $19.99! It’s not often we see a remaster sell for less than $40 or so, with one notable exception, and $20 seems like a fair price for this game.
Are you geeks ready to jump into the shoes of the Horseman War and slay demons and angels in post-apocalyptic Earth? If you missed it the first time around this would be the perfect time to jump into the Darksiders series.
