David Harbour Set to Star in Hellboy Reboot from Millennium

written by Jordan Cobb May 9, 2017

Earlier this year the dream of a third Hellboy film from Guillermo del Toro and Ron Perlman were dashed when del Tor himself said there was just no way to make it happen. We mourned, smoked one last cigar, and maybe sadly sang along to Barry Manilow before moving right along.

BUT WAIT! There could be more Hellboy adventures coming back to the big screen.

Negotiations are going on right now between Millennium and producers Larry Gordon and Lloyd Levin about a reboot of the film series that would start everything over. With Dark Horse’s own Mike Richardson set to produce as well, Neill Marshall is on board as the director and given his background with The Descent and on Game of Thrones, he certainly seems like a strong candidate given what all is explored from the comics. Hellboy creator Mike Mignola has co-written a script with Andrew Cosby and Christopher Golden titled Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen.

But who will ever take on the role that Ron Perlman arguably made iconic? Well why not Chief Jim Hopper? Yes, David Harbour of Stranger Things is being looked at to play the title character. A post from his Twitter earlier today seems to suggest that the role is all but his.

No telling when a deal would be reached, but no doubt this is music to the ears of many fans. Now some will of course be hesitant given that the films del Toro made with Perlman have garnered their own cult following, but I think this is a mighty fine crew to bring our favorite cigar-chomping devil back to the screen. Well before we get a concrete answer as to the reboot, why not pick up some Hellboy books right here and enjoy the day?
