Diablo 3 Director Calls It Quits On Blizzard And the Gaming Industry

Diablo 3 and Warhammer veteran Jay Wilson announced via Twitter that he will be leaving Blizzard after a 10 year stay with the company.

He later added:

Wilson has had a tumultuous time with the studio over the last decade. With his work as Director on Diablo III, he found himself smack dab in the middle of his own controversy between himself, fellow Diablo designer David Brevik, as well as the general fanbase for the franchise. In response to Brevik’s criticisms to some of the mechanical flaws found in-game, Wilson fired back in a less than professional way including calling him a “loser” all over social media.

The controversy died out when Wilson took to the Battle.net public forum to not only apologize to Brevik, but to the fans as well.

“I’m proud of Diablo III, and despite our differences at times I will miss the community that has formed around it. I feel I have made many mistakes in managing that relationship, but my intent was always to provide a great gaming experience, and be as open and receptive as possible, while still sticking true to the vision that the Diablo team has for the game.”

The director even worked on the World of Warcraft expansion, Warlords of Draenor. A notable presence within the Blizzard community and we here at DHTG wish him nothing but the best for whatever the future may hold for Mr. Wilson.
