Blizzcon 2016 is underway and the big reveals are rolling in. Among them are what’s coming to Diablo III for the series’ 20th anniversary. The first news to come out of Blizzard’s annual show regarding Diablo III was the addition of a new class: the Necromancer. While not new to the series, he is new to this sequel. I can’t wait to take control of the dead again in Diablo III when the new Hero Class is released some time in 2017. For now all we have is this trailer highlighting how bad ass the Necromancer is.
The Priests of Rathma—or necromancers, as outsiders call them—have long remained shrouded in mystery. Deep within the jungles of Kehjistan, they train to preserve the delicate balance between the forces of life and death. Now Sanctuary has need of their unique power, and the Priests of Rathma will answer.
There is a handy FAQ on the Necromancer that gives a little bit of background on the character. Not only is Blizzard bringing back a fan favorite with the Necromancer, they are also adding a substantial amount of content in an upcoming patch.
According to Kotaku, in a press release, Blizzard announced they are going to include the first Diablo game inside of Diablo III. Here is the official press release:
Celebrate 20 years of Diablo by traveling back into the depths of the Cathedral where it all began in this upcoming Diablo III: Reaper of Souls content update. Get ready to explore a monster-filled dungeon 16 levels deep, and come face to face with the four main bosses from the original game—all with retro touches like special graphics filters and eight-direction character movement.
This is great news for those looking for more to squeeze out of the already robust loot-fest. As with the Necromancer, no release date has been mentioned. All we know about the Cathedral is that it will be part of an upcoming 20th anniversary patch.
Will any of you geeks be diving back into Diablo III when this new content releases? I can’t wait to summon a skeleton army to fight for me. Blizzard sure knows how to take care of its fans. With this and the news of Sombra finally appearing in Overwatch, die-hard Blizzard fans must be absolutely giddy right now. What news out of Blizzcon so far has you the most excited.
