Diablo III Patch 2.3.0 gets a few reveals

written by Dustin S August 16, 2015

A new season for Diablo 3 is about to begin and with it comes a new major patch, 2.3.o. For those still trudging through the hordes of undead, demon-spawn of hell, and the worst, giant spiders, new content is on the way for you! Reaper of Souls still remains the last major title update with a ton of new content, but 2.3.o brings with it some nice, and free, new content for those still fighting the forces of hell.

The biggest piece of news coming from Blizzard is the return of the Horadric Cube. Well, not exactly. It’s a new item call Kanai’s Cube. Functions near identically as the Horadric Cube but with a few tweaks for the gameplay of Diablo 3.¬†The cube will be able to be discovered and acquired in the games Adventure Mode, which is how the game is getting so much longevity from its player base. Players will need to head to The Ruins of Secheron, a new¬†location to select in the Act III world map.

The new zone, The Ruins of Sescheron, will be a nice addition to the adventure mode gameplay. It’s an entire new environment for players to traverse and ties directly in with the lore from Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction. Sescheron was once the barbarian stronghold city which stood at the gates to Mount Arreat and the Worldstone, which Baal destroyed with his demon army on the way to try to control the Worldstone. Oh, oops, spoilers. Below is a fantastic preview video of the are courtesy of Blizzard.

Players will traverse the once bustling stronghold, constantly reminded of the atrocities committed there years before by Baal and his dark army. New environmental hazards such as traps and complete new enemies roam the area, creating new challenges and new demons to slay.

With the new area, and the new season, come new items and item sets for players to find and equip with their nephalem. The old sets will once again work into the random drop rotation for the standard adventure mode for all and the new sets will work into rotation for those in the new season. As the trailer states, patch 2.3.0 is now available on the Diablo 3 PTR which is available to all through the Battle.net application.

There are also the rumbling rumors of a new expansion in the works as Blizzard had posted a job opening for an artist. This would be the second major expansion. I can’t be the only one in thinking that Blizzard might be running out of major demons for us to kill, but, Diablo is roaming free in the world of sanctuary. With that would come new classes and that’s the most exciting thing that might happen with a new expansion. Though this might just be to replace the loss of Kevin Kanai Griffith, an artist for Blizzard since 2005, who had worked on artistic projects such as World of Warcraft and it’s expansions up through Mists of Pandaria, the World of Warcraft TCG, and ultimately into Diablo 3 and Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls.
