Disney artist and theme park designer John Ramirez has imagined a wonderful ride involving the 1988 Hayao Miyazaki classic My Neighbor Totoro. In 1993 Disney re-released the same movie for the United States. Although there is nothing set in stone about actually developing the ride, there hasn’t been anything to say that it couldn’t happen in the future. According to Kotaku, Ramirez said that he had spoken to Miyazaki on quite a few occasions and would continue to do so “until they bar me from the studio or until he says yes!”
I know as a super huge Miyazaki fan I would LOVE going through all the key movie moments in real time, all while sitting in an acorn. As a child growing up with this movie I remember countless times of wishing I had been Mei or Satsuki, or having my own Totoro. I can only imagine how well the ride would do both independently and as a whole for the Disney theme parks.
There’s no doubt that Studio Ghibli and Disney work closely together, considering how many Studio Ghibli productions Disney has produced for the U.S. Many of those titles include Ponyo, Howl’s Moving Castle, Castle In The Sky, and many more. So as a fan, I will say only this; PLEASE MAKE THIS REAL LIFE!
