Disney is always up on its technology and constantly changing. Soon, they are gonna take Disney Parks characters to a whole new world (see what I did there?)
According to CNN, Disney apparently put in a new patent application to include robots. Apparently, they want “humanoid robots,” that have been “adapted for soft contact and/or interaction with a human.” The purpose of these robots, according to the application, is “To physically interact with children,” CNN continues to say “the inventors understood that the robot should be soft and durable.” Which, by Disney standards, sounds very huggable. Also, familiar?
By seeing that part of the document, it almost suggests that the humanoid robots will be Baymax from Big Hero 6. However, I’m pretty sure they already have a Baymax available for meet and greets. Would they need more?
However, CNN tells us the patent application goes on to say that Disney “already created a “small, toy-sized” human-looking prototype, which was made via 3D printing and encased in soft material…”This robot’s style and other motions…were modeled after a given animated character (e.g., a character from an animated film or television show),” Sounds pretty Baymax-y, actually.
Disney is a constantly evolving company. With going from paper tickets, to cards, to wrist bands, they are about one step away from using fingerprints for park tickets. Disney also has many new attractions coming to the parks, including Avatar Land and expanding Star Wars in Hollywood Studios. So who knows what this robot could possibly be for?
Disney, in its usual secret keeping capacity, declined to comment on the robot and even going so far as to releasing no information as to when Disney might release this in the parks.
What do you guys think? What characters do you think this could possibly be? Will humanoid robots eventually take over the jobs of the beloved Disney Princesses? Sound off in the comments below.
